Cassie and her family have raised Maine Coons at home in Jamul, in the hills east of San Diego, for more than fifteen years. It started the way it does for most of us: with one big, chirping, endlessly curious cat who made the whole family fall for the breed. Read our story.

How to Choose a Reputable Maine Coon Breeder
There are good Maine Coon breeders all over the country, and a few who give the breed a bad name. Whether you buy from us or from someone else, these are the things that tell an ethical cattery apart:
Where the kittens grow up
Kittens raised in the house, handled every day and used to normal household noise become confident, friendly adults. Ask where the kittens live, and ask for photos or a video call that shows it. A good breeder is happy to show you.
Honest descriptions
Every kitten is different. A reputable breeder tells you about each kitten's personality and energy level, and steers you toward the kitten that suits your home, not just the one in the prettiest photo.
Vet care you can see in writing
Expect a vet examination before the kitten goes home, vaccinations for its age, deworming, a health certificate and a vaccination record. Ask what is included and get it in writing.
A written contract and guarantee
A real breeder gives you a written contract that sets out the health guarantee: what it covers, for how long, and what you need to do, such as an early visit to your own vet.
A clear plan for getting the kitten home
Ask exactly how the kitten will travel. Pickup, an in-cabin flight with you or a flight nanny, or licensed ground transport are all reasonable. Be wary of anyone who wants to ship a young kitten in an airplane's cargo hold.
Questions for you, too
A breeder who cares where the kitten goes will ask about your home, other pets, children and your time at home. If nobody asks you anything, ask yourself why.
Red Flags When Buying a Maine Coon Kitten
- Payment by gift cards or an unusual payment app, or pressure to pay today.
- No photos or video of the actual kitten, or the same photos showing up on other websites.
- No written contract, or a "guarantee" that is only spoken.
- A breeder who will not say how the kitten travels, or who plans cargo shipping.
- Kittens offered with no vet records at all.
Ethical Maine Coon Breeding, as We See It
For us, ethical breeding means raising every kitten in our home, placing each one as a companion already spayed or neutered, describing them honestly, and staying in touch after they leave. If a kitten is not the right fit for a family, we say so. Our guide to Maine Coon health explains the breed's known health questions, and European Maine Coons explains the look our cats have.
Questions About Us as Breeders
01Are you a Maine Coon breeder near me?
If you live in Southern California, yes. We are in Jamul, California, about 25 minutes from downtown San Diego, 1 hour 40 minutes from Irvine and 2 hours 10 minutes from Los Angeles without heavy traffic, and you can pick your kitten up from us. Farther away, a flight nanny, a San Diego airport hand-off or ground transport brings your kitten home.
02How do I get one of your kittens?
Choose a kitten from the available kittens and send us an inquiry, or reserve your kitten with our kitten contract. If nothing suits right now, tell us what you are hoping for.
03What paperwork comes with a kitten?
A written contract with the 1-year genetic health guarantee, a health certificate and a vaccination record showing every vaccination and deworming so far. Your kitten is also microchipped, so register the chip in your name when you get home.
04What is the difference between a cattery and a breeder?
None, really: a cattery is simply a cat breeder's program, the way a kennel is a dog breeder's. Ours is a home cattery, which means the cats live in the house with the family rather than in a separate building.
